British Musical Firework Championship 9th to 11th October 2009 | |||

It was a great shame that the final night of the championship had to be called off due to high and gusting winds blowing in the direction of the audience. I was round at the main setup area on Sunday afternoon and spoke to two of the Fantastic Fireworks crew at about three p.m., they were both very worried and said that the display would have to be modified or could be cancelled if the wind was still as bad at 8 p.m.. The two teams who were due to set off their fireworks, Star Fireworks and Fantastic Fireworks will have been totally devastated. The people who set up the displays are all volunteers and start setting up the displays early in the morning, setup takes about eight to nine hours, when the displays were cancelled they will then have had at least another four hours to take the display down safely. The Friday and Saturday night displays were great as usual. On Friday night Dragonfire had the daunting task of being the first to display, that was followed by a display by Axholme Fireworks. On Saturday night there were three displays from Pyro 1 Fireworks, Flashpoint Fireworks and Essex Pyrotechnics. Due to the cancellation of the final night the judging was done on only five of the seven displays. The five companies who did display will of course have been very disappointed for the two companies who had spent a great deal of time and resources and who were unable to display the results of all their hard work. As this was a competition then there had to be a winner and the judging was done on the five displays from Friday and Saturday night. The results were as follows:- | |||
